| Comments | A pyridoxal 5′-phosphate protein. The enzyme, isolated from the mosquito?Aedes aegypti, catalyses the production of 3,4-dihydroxylphenylacetaldehyde directly from?L-dopa. Dopamine is not formed as an intermediate (cf. EC?4.1.1.28, aromatic-L-amino-acid decarboxylase). The enzyme is specific for?L-dopa and does not react with other aromatic amino acids with the exception of a low activity with ¦Á-methyl-L-dopa. |
