The enzyme from human efficiently catalyses the reduction of progesterone, androstenedione, 17¦Á-hydroxyprogesterone and testosterone to 5¦Â-reduced metabolites; it can also act on aldosterone, corticosterone and cortisol, but to a lesser extent [8].
